Stemming from cinema and the theater, the French term mise en scene literally means "putting on stage." New work by Marianela de la Hoz does just that. By placing her paintings within at times almost theatrical settings, she further directs the viewer to center stage, the place where the story is set to unfold. Marianela de la Hoz helps us to understand the nature of what it is to be human. Her beautiful and sometimes controversial paintings cause us to think about ourselves and the drama in which we play our own part.
